From The Desk of Dr. Brown....
G-forces and chain reactions
(our pilots and race car drivers will understand)
Came this full-blown crazy maze of “artwork” (LOL), now held in place with tape so it doesn’t come crashing down into literally a million tiny pieces.
I don’t know what the G force was of the flying little rock that caused this huge amount of chain reaction up the entire piece of glass, but it immediately reminded me of a patient I saw that very same week who also had his own “chain reaction” in his body.
G- Force is short for gravitational force. (Gravity pull from the Earth)
G-force is a measure of acceleration or deceleration, which is the change in speed over time. If you're sitting reading this, your body is experiencing 1 G - force, which is the acceleration (pulling down) we experience due to gravity. Rapid acceleration or deceleration from your current position increases or decreases the G-forces on your body, the amount based on how much you weigh.
Example, if you’re walking, you are experiencing a 1 G-force due to normal gravity of the Earth. If you roll your ankle and fall, you accelerate your G-Force. When you accelerate the G- force, your body will become heavier to the pull of Earth’s gravity. Instead of your 150 pound body hitting the ground, it will seem like you weigh 200 pounds hitting the ground, magnifying the injury.
This G-force can travel through your body just like the force of that little rock traversed throughout the entire piece of glass in the picture!
The G-force does not stop at the ankle. Your statement, “I just rolled my ankle, it’s fine now”, does not necessarily mean your whole body is fine. When the ankle rolled, the G- force went from your ankle, to the knee, hip, sacro-iliac, lower spine, possibly upwards to your middle spine, neck and head, depending on how you landed.
The whole kinetic chain needs to be checked for alignment despite how your ankle feels. If not corrected, your “just rolled my ankle but is fine now” develops into a more serious lower back pain, sacro-iliitis, middle back pain, or even a headache 6-12 months down the road. Which at that point, you arrive at our office stating “all of a sudden I have this really bad lower back pain….and I didn’t do a thing to cause it”….forgetting about the “just rolled my ankle” event 6 months prior!
Get your spine checked on a monthly basis to decrease the chances of these scenarios from happening.
One visit a month might save you a lot of pain, a lot of visits and a lot of money 6-12 months from now. 😊
Til next time….
